Casa Tudor Restaurant – Brasov, Romania
“All stories begin the same: “Once Upon a time there was’… This is how the narrated menu at Casa Tudor in Brasov, Romania starts. It was a new concept for me, but one I found very entertaining and almost dragged out my dinner meal for a good 3 hours – the first hour solely reading every word in the menu.
I was recommended the restaurant by the guesthouse I was staying at (in my opinion the best guesthouse in Brasov by the way – LaDespani) as being typically Romanian cuisine. I would probably say it is more International/Romanian – so it should suit a wide-range of taste buds. Plus the menu is extensive, alongside reading the storybook you have at least 10 pages of dishes ranging from fish to beef to wild boar and of course my all time favourite page – dessert.
I ended up not getting further than the first page for my meal decision – the ‘Salmon with Champagne & kiwi sauce’. Honestly how could a girl go past such a pick-up line like that one? If the title didn’t have me, well the story behind it sure did;
So was it that good? ..Even better, the combination of all the elements in the meal were absolutely stunning and had my dinner date in awe. Unfortunately he ordered the ‘Wild boar medallions and potato croquettes’, which were sadly understated and overcooked. Most of the grilled meat is done on an outside BBQ. Which I have to admit, is tricky for even the best of BBQ-ers to get it spot on (even Kiwi blokes!).
However my date didn’t walk away with an upside-down frown like you may think as the 1-litre portions of house-wine in an oh so friendly carafe stole all those bad tastes out of his mouth. The bill came to around 15-20 Euro, so any guy out on a date is sure to be happy about that one too.
All up, taking the good with the bad, I loved Casa Tudor, from the food to the cozy, warm surroundings of the restaurant with it’s oversized thick wooden furniture to it’s first stern but in the end friendly, humourous staff. It is a must for anyone visiting Brasov – plus a perfect hideaway from that cold weather that is on its way!
