Cape Mentelle 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon
50 years! That’s how old Cape Mentelle in WA’s Margaret River region are this year after being founded in 1970. Congratulations guys ? and thank you very much for this sample bottle.
This 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is made up of mostly Cab Sauv with a small portion of Petit Verdot (10%) and Merlot (4%). We chucked it in the decanter as it’s still pretty young to drink. There’s no doubt this big boy will go 20 or 30 years in the cellar.
In the glass it’s the colour of black cherries. Smooth black forest berries, new oak and cocoa rise from the glass. While in the mouth it’s juicy and coats every millimeter of your mouth with flavour. Cherries, cigars and vanilla coffee intertwine with silky tannins. Jam packed with flavour and deliciousness.
This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.
