Barossa Boy Lifeblood Shiraz 2016
Red wine and blue cheese, does late night snacking get any better?
Introducing the Barossa Boy Wines 2016 Lifeblood Shiraz, one heck of a blockbuster wine made by Trent Burge & team. This wine is made for drinking over time so you can experience how the Barossa’s most loved variety can age so gracefully. It’s one of those wines you buy at least 6 or 12 and pull one out of the cellar every year.
A massive thanks to the team for sending over this sample and suggesting to match it with some blue cheese (we opted for Maggie Beer’s creamy blue) – it was a match made in heaven!
Prior to release, the wine spent 22 months in a combination of French and American oak followed by 9 months in bottle. Only 400 cases were produced which you can buy through barossaboywines.com.au for $80 a bottle.
We popped it in the decanter prior to drinking it, knowing that it was going to be a biggie. In the glass, it’s a very deep red-purple colour. On the nose, I found it big and bold with a seducing warmth to it. Blackberries and plums, baking spice and a hint of smokey leather came to mind. When I took a sip, it was one of those wines which made me close my eyes and go ‘mmm’ immediately. Think plush juicy black fruits, big grippy yet silky tannins, and a humongous long finish. It’s a big boy!
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
