G.H Mumm Champagne Blanc de Blancs de Cramant
Christmas Day in Thailand calls for duty-free Champagne. We picked up this bottle of G.H Mumm Champagne Blanc de Blancs at Melbourne airport for about the $150 mark. The limit for bringing alcohol into Thailand is only 1 litre per person, so we definitely were going for quality over quantity.
We also knew in Krabi, where we were going to be spending Christmas Day, that our wine and champagne choices would be pretty low.
I actually didn’t write a tasting note for this one as Mr Spittoon and I simply enjoyed it while cooling off in the pool, however, it was incredibly moreish so I had to pop up a post on it.
Being a blanc de blancs, means it’s made only from white grapes. This cuvée is sourced from grand cru Chardonnay vineyards in the village of Cramant in the Côtes des Blancs in France’s Champagne region.
I think what Mr Spittoon and I loved most about this Mumm Champagne is its incredibly soft texture, it’s like drinking clouds! After some further research, I found out that it’s bottled under a lower pressure of 4.5 bars, instead of the standard 6 bars which attribute to those soft bubbles. If you find champagne or sparkling wine rather ‘gassy’ then this is a great option for you.
I’d most definitely buy this one again. In fact, we may even buy one on our way back through Melbourne airport 😉
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
