The Lake House Denmark + VinoFood & WineSpa Products
After reading The Lake House’s menu prior to our Denmark trip, I knew it had to be on the ‘must-visit’ list! I love nibbling, that’s the kind of eater I am. I want to try a little bit of everything! So when I saw that The Lake House menu’s speciality was vineyard platters, well I was in love.
Despite an all over the place tasting at the ‘cellar door’ which felt like it was in the main thoroughfare to the restaurant, I really struggled to leave The Lake House after our lunch.
The wine tasting
I have to admit, this wasn’t my favourite wine tasting experience in the region. To be honest this could be half to do with my selfishness as pretty much at all the other cellar doors we had the staffs full attention however The Lake House was fairly busy as they have a super popular lunch spot.
The staff were busy manning the cellar door and the restaurant till simultaneously which made it difficult to get service. As we were one of 3 small groups wanting tastings from the extensive tasting list, with everyone wanting to try specific ones – we weren’t exactly being the easiest customers. The cool thing is that there is plenty of awesome delights at the cellar door to keep you entertained from the VinoFood range and free tastings to the gorgeous WineSpa products.
Patience, after visiting 4 wineries prior, is not my forte. So in the end we opted to sit down for lunch. Best decision ever!
Setting the scene for lunch
OMG this was TC heaven. We didn’t pre-book so after seeing how busy the cellar door was we were worried we would get a crappy table. The lovely waitress said we could find a table anywhere and they’d bring us a menu. And we got the goods!
Our picnic table was set in amongst the beautiful garden overlooking the lake and we had the most gorgeous wee blue birds floating around us. Yes it does sound kind of like a Cinderella fairytale, and I have to admit I felt a bit like a princess with my spunky Prince Spittoon.
The food & wine
I had a lovely glass of 2014 Reserve Riesling at $13 a glass, which was superb. And yes we totally went for one of the platters! For the life of me I couldn’t decide (even though I had been drooling over the menu for countless hours prior to our trip and even in the car directly before we got there!) so I left it in Mr. Spittoon’s capable hands.
He decided on the $70 Madison Vineyard Lunch.
It included:
- Mount Barker smoked chicken with VinoFood beetroot & Shiraz relish
- Hand cut leg ham with VinoFood seeded chardonnay mustard and fig
- Prune & Merlot mustard
- Italian cacciatore sausage
- Vegetable frittata
- Seasonal dip
- VinoFood tomato & Riesling relish
- Antipasto bowl
- Cheese selection of capel club cheddar and double cream brie accompanied with VinoFood wine jelly
- Semillon pickled pears, fig, apple & chardonnay chutney
- House baked bread (AMAZING!)
- And wafers, garden salad with VinoFood Riesling pickled vegetables and special VinoFood dressing

VinoFood & WineSpa
I have to admit hearing about VinoFood through Just In Time Gourmet was also another reason why we HAD to head to The Lake House.
VinoFood is a range of delicious sauces and condiments which use wine in their recipes. I just have to share my absolute favourite product of recent and that’s the Red Pepper, Chardonnay and Chilli Sauce – I teamed this up with freshly made rice-paper rolls as the dipping sauce and me oh my, everyone was absolutely gushing over the dish! Thank-you VinoFood! I ever so slowly want to try my way through the range!
WineSpa, are beauty products which again use wine in the recipe. I bought my workmate some of the handcream and she swears by it. It smells absolutely delicious! And again, I think I need to try my way through the range.
Would I go back?
It’s safe to say, we’ll be going back. Skip the tasting and head straight for relaxation and we’ll make sure we take a taxi next time too so neither of us have to worry about driving!

Thanks for stopping by Nina, it is an absolutely beautiful setting – you really should visit next time you’re in the area 🙂 x
I am so with you on that one Laura, platters for every meal would suit me down to a tee! Thanks for popping by and as always, happy wine-drinking 🙂 x
I definitely have to try more now Brooke, I must look through your recipes for ideas 🙂 x
They have fabulous wines and gourmet goodies! I have tried lots of their Vinofood products and I love them!!!!
I LOVE platters. I could eat from a platter every day for lunch and be a very happy woman (well, maybe my figure wouldn’t be but… ah, who cares!). The food at the Lake House looks gorgeous, as does the scenery. Sorry to hear about the cellar door (I know how you feel… I always get put off with inattentive/distracted/rude staff also). Maybe visitors would have a better experience in the off season 😉 Great review as always xx
Great review Casey, I’ve always been curious about The Lake House. The name alone appeals to me and the setting looks beautiful.
