The Nest @ Sittella – A Sparkling Wine Breakfast Done Right
Seriously, who doesn’t love a champagne or sparkling wine breakfast or brunch? It’s the best excuse to sip on the good stuff pre-noon! Typically we have a bubbly brekkie on special occasions like a birthday or Christmas morning (actually, we ALWAYS have a champagne breakfast at Christmas) and sometimes we just do it because we can.
If it’s at home, it will most likely involve the BBQ, croissants, bacon, eggs, fruit and all that good stuff. However every now and then when we don’t feel like doing dishes (yes we are a dishwasher-free house, so whoever doesn’t cook has to wash up) we treat ourselves to a fizzy breakfast out.
There’s no doubt that our absolutely favourite place to go in 2017 for a sparkling breakfast was Sittella’s The Nest in the Swan Valley. Every single time we went (yes it happened a fair few times), it was undeniably delicious and really set a good mood for the rest of the day. So I thought it was about time I let you in on why this is my favourite bubbly brunch spot in Perth!
The Nest
The Nest is the most recent extension to the Sittella property. The beautifully designed wine bar and is only open Saturday and Sunday from 9am till 4pm. You can also book the space for functions, which is actually what I did for team at work and we had a private tasting in there with winemaker, Yuri Berns.
Breakfast is available both days from 9-11am and the small-plate menu is available the rest of the day up until 4pm.
The Wine
What I really like about The Nest is that the wine list includes all your favourite Sittella tipples and also a number of rare and small-batch wines. I seem to never get very far past the sparkling wine list though!
It’s also great that they serve up their tipples in decent glassware, Plumm in fact. It always grinds my gears when places with decent wine lists, serve up the wine in shotty glasses.
On our last visit (which was in fact last week on New Years Eve) we enjoyed a bottle of the new release 2013 ‘Marie-Christien Lugten’ Grand Vintage – absolutely superb! It went down a treat at 9:30am – checking out my tasting note below.
The Food
I have to admit I love a concise food menu! The small-plates menu is pretty straight to the point, fish’n’chips, oysters, chorizo, charcuterie and all that great stuff that goes so well with an afternoon sipping wine.
The breakfast menu is also nice and concise, it has the essentials on alongside a few delicious surprises, like one of my favourites, the “Nest” Breakfast Scotch Egg which consists of a soft-boiled egg, sausage, bacon & mushroom coat, on a bed of beans in tomato and crisp potato. It’s sooo good, specially when it’s washed down with a glass of sparkles! Not to mention, it’s only $12.50 – bargain.
I have to add, I am also a big fan of the Poached Eggs on Sourdough for $12 and adding hashbrowns and crispy bacon on the side.
Everything is always cooked perfectly and the service is top-notch. Oh my, I am making myself drool writing this post…
To Conclude
Long story short, if you love a sparkling wine breakfast, get out to Sittella asap on a Saturday or Sunday – trust me, you’ll thank me. Fore more information, check out the Sittella website.
PS: Don’t be shy to ask for the wine list if they don’t give it to you up front, there’s no judgement wanting a bit of fizz at 9am! And as always, don’t drink and drive, ensure you have a skipper with you (or take an Uber!).
