Boekenhoutskloof Porcupine Ridge 2014 Syrah
I made my first South African Bunny Chow this week (aka curry in a bread bowl). The latest The TC Wine Club box was South African inspired and this pick was based on a recommendation by Reeva from Proudly South African In Perth.
We really enjoyed the Bunny Chow (here is the recipe I used – with a few slight edits like putting it in the slow-cooker and adding chilli!) and this Boekenhoutskloof Porcupine Ridge 2014 Syrah was the perfect match with its spiced black fruit aromas and flavours. It’s most definitely a full-bodied wine and I enjoyed the hints of black jellybeans that my palate seemed to pick up.
Wine Fact: Shiraz & Syrah are the same grape variety. A winemaker will typically use one or the other to convey the style they have made. Syrah is more an old world elegant style while Shiraz is more a fruit driven and new world in style. Google it for more info.
