Mandoon Estate 2011 Sparkling Reserve Chardonnay
I drank my fair share of this bubbles at the Official Mandoon Estate & Homestead Brewery Grand Opening in November 2014. It is divine! It is made in the traditional method (exactly the same way French Champagne is made with secondary fermentation in the bottle) and is crafted from hand-picked Pemberton grown Chardonnay grapes.
The grapes are grown in Pemberton as the cool-climate down there is perfect for growing this specific Chardonnay clone which was directly imported from France. Each bottle is done by hand, so it’s safe to say that this special bubbles is hand-crafted specifically for you!! This bubbles sells for $45 at the Mandoon cellar door in the Swan Valley.
Tasting Note
Beautiful white-gold on the eye with plentiful small, fast streaming bubbles in the glass. On the nose it’s a fruit bomb with a biscuit crust, melon and brioche. On the palate it’s delicate, elegant and pretty. Very subtle flavours of lemon sorbet, a touch of mint, apple and vanilla with a slight lick of camomile. An absolutely stunning wine to drink with Christmas breakfast, lunch or dinner (or all 3!)! This bubbles is perfect for the Christmas season full-stop.
About Mandoon Estate in the Swan Valley
As you may have seen all over the media in recent weeks, Mandoon Estate have recently re-launched. The little cellar door at the back of the winery has now been upgraded to a fab new complex in amongst the vines. Alongside the cellar door there is Homestead Brewery, a fine-dining restaurant, an outdoor beer garden and more! It is such a fabulous spot that you could literally spend all day at. Between the delicious wine, beer and food, you’ll find it hard to leave. Trust me!
The property was owned by the Roe Family since settlement in the 1840’s until 2008 when the Ecreg family purchased the Caversham property. Mandoon Estate was created and launched in 2010, and since inception Ryan Sudano (Senior Winemaker) has been crafting their award-wining wines.
