UnWined Subiaco 2018 – All The Wine
Yesterday I headed along to Unwined Subiaco. The Travelling Corkscrew absolutely loves this event and since she was unable to head along with Mr Spittoon, I happily went along in her place.
A big thank you to Richard and the team at CMS Events for inviting us along for the day.
If you’re looking to head along today (Sunday) there are still tickets available for purchase at the gate.

We made sure to get the festival early which was a great idea. Below is the line waiting to get in at 11:25am, 5 minutes before the doors opened.
You couldn’t have asked for a better day with a top temperature of 27 degrees, the crowd and wine producers were absolutely buzzing.
Before heading along, I was chatting to the Travelling Corkscrew about what angle I would take for writing this year’s round-up article and that was when I set myself the task to try a wine from each producer at the festival. I almost did it too! I managed to visit 41 of 42 wine producers who were in attendance and here is how our day went.
Talisman – Sauvignon Blanc Fume
Xabregas – Sparkling Riesling
Wine Theatre
We popped along to the wine theatre at 12 noon to try 3 WA white wines which were matched with locally sourced food by Charlie Vargas (on the left) from New Normal Bar & Kitchen in Subiaco.
This was the first time that they had run this type of event which is in addition to the wine only tasting education sessions.
Tickets were $20 in addition to the entry into the festival, but were absolutely worth it!
Blair Hill (pictured above on the right) from the Wine Education Centre introduced us to each of the wines which included:
- Cape Grace Wines – 2017 Chenin Blanc
- Redgate Wines – 2016 Sauvignon Blanc Reserve
- Hutton Wines – Chardonnay 2017
Each wine was elegantly matched with a dish. We were in wine and food heaven!

So we managed to try wines from 41 of the 42 wineries so we were a little shy of tasting the 300 wines that were available on the day. You can also buy wine by the glass to enjoy on the grass, a bottle for later or larger quantities can be delivered.
Overall there were over 70 businesses where you could taste wine, beer, spirits and food.
Food is available for purchase from our foodies and you can buy wine by the glass to enjoy at the event or take home bottles for later, ask exhibitors about delivery after the event.
Dinner
After leaving UnWined Subiaco, we were starving and decided to walk down the road from Market Square Park to Grill’d Subiaco where a good friend of mine, David is the store manager.
We opted to grab a burger and sweet potatoes chips each as we were starving!
Wow, what a day! I love UnWined Subiaco. It is by far my favourite wine festival in Perth. If you get a chance pop along today (Sunday) or look out for their upcoming events for Sunset Wines in February and City Wine in June.
