Little Giant Wines & Beers – Raise a Glass to our Wombats!

Say hello to the uber cute and stumpy world of Little Giant. You have probably seen the Little Giant wine range at your local bottle shop, as not only are the labels adorned with a super cute Aussie wombat (thanks to the inspiring southern hairy-nosed wombat that roams South Australia) but the wine comes in short, stumpy bottles that stand out from the crowd.
As they say, good things come in small packages right 😉
Most famously known for the Little Giant Shiraz, the wine range has grown over the last few years and I am so excited to share with you some exciting new LG products with you here on the blog today.
The Wines
The Little Giant Wine range includes a wide variety of delicious tipples with a particular focus on red wines. I am yet to try them all, however you can find some of my tasting notes at the bottom of this post.
Some of the wines you can find in the range include:
- Adelaide Hills Chardonnay
- Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris
- Barossa Shiraz
- Coonawarra Cabernet
- Grenache
- Little Wine Red Blend
- Malbec
- Merlot
- Pinot Noir
Plus there are also the ‘Little Batch’ and ‘Little Giant Free’ ranges which you can read more about below.
You can buy the Little Giant Wines from major retailers like Dan Murphys, Just Wines and BWS.
Little Giant ‘Little Batch’ Wines
The ‘Little Batch’ wine range from Little Giant is focused on small parcels of fruit. The focus is on unique varieties, vineyards and wine styles. So they are something a little different for us adventurous drinkers.
There are a limited amount of bottles produced and each bottle is numbered, which is pretty cool.
- Little Batch Adelaide Hills Nebbiolo
- Little Batch Barossa Valley Montepulciano
- Little Batch Cabernet Malbec
- Little Batch Grenache Tempranillo
- Little Batch Malbec Shiraz
- Little Batch Shiraz Mataro (learn more about wine made form Mataro here)
Little Giant Free Wines
LG Free is freedom of winemaking expression, to make wines of purity that reflect the regions they’re from – in this case treasured biodynamic vineyards located in McLaren Vale.
Patrick Haddock – Fourth Wave Wines
The Little Giant Free (LGF for short) wine range is focused on natural and organic winemaking, or ‘lo-fi winemaking’ as it is known in some circles. Not to be confused with preservative free wines, the LGF wines are:
- Certified Biodynamic
- Certified Organic
- Certified Sustainable
- Vegan Friendly
They are exclusively sourced from a single estate vineyard in McLaren Vale and are a collaboration between Vigneron Mike Brown and Corey Ryan. These are fresh, immediately drinkable, deliciously food friendly wines. Which include:
- Free Cabernet Sauvignon
- Free Grenache
- Free Pet Nat
- Free Shiraz
I have a bottle of the Free Grenache to taste, so keep an eye out for my tasting note.
Little Giant Beers
Guaranteed to satisfy a “Giant” thirst Little Giant have just launched three bespoke beers that are said to “personify the big and fresh flavours people associate with the brand”.
Within the Little Giant beer range you’ll find:
- Little Giant Red Lager: A richly flavoured malt driven European style lager.
- Little Giant Pale Lager: A pure and refreshing hop driven. ‘Pilsen’ style lager.
- Little Giant Strong Pale Lager: A deeply flavoured and complex Belgian inspired ale.
When I’m not drinking wine, I love a cold beer, so I’ll definitely be hunting down these!

My Tasting Notes
Little Giant LGF Natural Grenache 2021
This Grenache is a juicy plum red colour in the glass. It’s elegant on the nose with hints of cherries, raspberries and red liquorice aromas. In the mouth it invigorates the senses with plentiful red fruit and a sprinkling of spice coming through. It definitely doesn’t taste as heavy as the 14.5% abv would suggest.
Little Giant ‘Little Batch’ Heathcote Nebbiolo 2019
Nebbiolo is one of my favourite winter red wines. It packs an elegant punch of flavour and really warms you up with it’s typical high ABV. It’s like Pinot Noir on steroids!
it’s really interesting to find a Nebbiolo from Heathcote, so I was super excited to try this one from Little Giant which I bought via Laithwaites.
In the glass it’s a light bricky red colour. It’s true to it’s Neb nature, being super aromatic with juicy cherry fruit, anise and sweet spice dominating the nose for me. In the mouth it has great acidity and length with plenty of tasty fruit flavours. It’s fantastic well balanced with a wonderful satin-like mouthfeel. Definitely an iron fist in a velvet glove type of wine.

Little Giant Wines Barossa Shiraz 2018
The wine is a lovely deep garnet colour in the glass. On the nose it smells warm and toasty with berries and sweet vanillin oak coming through for me. In the mouth it’s smooth and full bodied with a long juicy finish. Very yummy and all for a great cause.
