The Ultimate in Chic Escapism – Six Senses, Zighy Bay Oman
There’s nothing like a luxury weekend away to look forward to after a never-ending week at the office where everything seems to be going bottoms up. Lucky for me, the Sultanate of Oman is a mere 2 hour drive from Dubai which means I got to experience a weekend away like no other – A-lister treatment all the way baby!
If you haven’t visited the UAE or Oman before you must put aside at least 2 nights to stay at the beautiful Zighy Bay. It is a luscious Six Senses Hideaway Resort which is located on a beautiful sandy beach, camouflaged into the rugged mountainous landscape of Oman.
The only way to enter the resort is over the 2,100m high mountains, which is usually driven only by the experienced resort employees. Or like myself you can really choose to arrival in style by paragliding in 007 style. It is UN-BELIEVEABLE and so amazingly beautiful that you will be grinning ear-to-ear before you even see your decked out room.
On arrival you are introduced to your own person butler (Brian from Hong Kong deserves a mention, he was outstanding!) and taken to your room. Now no matter how much I try to describe this, it won’t do our villa justice. We were right on the beach; with our own 21sqm infinity edged swimming pool as well as a beautiful outdoor ‘cocktail area’ and sun loungers of course. There was a lovely rustic outdoor shower which matched the interior of the villa. All amenities were there as well as your own private wine cellar (big plus in my book – though to be honest I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on their wine buyers and suggesting a few additions) and your pillow menu – 14 different pillows to choose from each night.
It was heaven, and I swear we only left the room (on our personal vintage bicycles – cute!) when we really had to – massage at the spa and brekkie, just the essentials. To be honest, I was found mostly in the pool enjoying the fresh air and sunshine with a bucket of corona and fresh limes Brian had brought for our disposal – it was a hard life.
The mix of local culture and the chic, rustic décor really covered everything in my book. Even though it was only a two night getaway I came back to Dubai feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and ready to beg my way into going again.
