SEO Resources for Wine Bloggers & the Wine Industry

The rumour isn’t true! I don’t simply visit wineries, drink wine and blog all day. It may happen someday when I win lotto and I can simply indulge in my passions without the weight of having to be an adult and pay bills, but for the moment the reality is that I do have a full-time job. The blog is simply a passionate hobby of mine.

The funny thing is, I don’t want the blog to ‘become my job’ as most people expect. I like having the freedom to do it how I want, when I want and without financial pressures. If it was to become my full-time job, I would be worried that it would become just another job/chore and some of that wine-fuelled passion I have that comes through in the blog and on social media would slip.

Plus there’s also the fact that I LOVE my day job and I feel lucky to get paid for doing something I enjoy. What do I do? I am an online marketer, or more specifically an SEO specialist. SEO, otherly known as Search Engine Optimisation is how you can help websites get more exposure through Google (for example; the first 3 unpaid results on the search result pages attract approximately 60% of the clicks – you’re pretty much desperate if you have to venture to the second page of Google).

Therefore it’s my job is to get my clients showing as close to the top of page 1 of the Google search results for relevant searches, so we can get more people who are interested in my clients products and services to their website. I like to think of it as the millennium’s public relations; “a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organisations and their publics” says Stuart Elliot from the New York Times.

The funny thing is, over 10 years ago I graduated from the Auckland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Communications majoring in Public Relations – never thinking I would really utilise it! Here I am 10 years later, finally putting my degree to good use!

But the best bit? Is that the blog makes me better at my job as an SEO, and my job makes my blog better! It’s no accident that this blog now receives over 10,000 visitors each month (up to 85% of these are organic users from Google) and that my blog posts show for many different topics near the top of the 1st page of Google.

I know a number of wine bloggers and wine industry people do follow the blog and my social media so I thought it was about time I put my two skill-sets together – SEO and wine! Therefore over the past year I have been publishing articles online to share my knowledge and hopefully help others learn more about these two awesome topics.

Therefore today on the blog, I wanted to share some of these resources with you. Check them out below and please do get in touch if you have any questions.

Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn to view more articles I have published on LinkedIn Pulse and there’s always plenty of SEO and online marketing tips on the White Chalk Road blog for all industries and bloggers too.
