St Anne’s Winery 2018 Port Phillip Riesling

St Anne's Winery 2018 Port Phillip RieslingI am loving Australian Riesling! From WA’s Great Southern wine region to Tasmania and this one is from Pentland Hills in the Port Phillip wine region in Victoria. St Anne’s Winery sources grapes from around Victoria and New South Wales to produce an exciting range of wines for us to consume (thank you very much!).

Recently the team sent me a few samples including this 2018 Port Phillip Riesling. It literally lasted about 2 seconds unopened in my house.

It’s a Riesling that is made in a ‘fruit and acid driven’ style as they put it and retails for $22. The vines were planted back in 1974 and they sit at 450m altitude on conglomerate glacial deposited sandy clay loam soils.

For this wine, the grapes were hand harvested and the final product was bottled in August 2018.

My notes on the wine are:

It’s a pale yellow colour in the glass. On the nose it makes me think of lime shortbread (is that a thing? If it isn’t, I think it definitely should be!), green apples and it simply oozes freshness and crispness. In the mouth it has a rather silky texture with a lick of minerality and those lime and apple flavours come through from the nose.

Sorry G&Ts, but there’s a new mid-afternoon refreshment stealing the show!

Please note: All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

This bottle was sent to me as a sample direct from the winery.
