You can never buy just one bottle of Chardonnay right?
This Scotchmans Hill 2015 ‘Swan Bay’ Chardonnay ($23) is the 2nd bottle of Aussie Chardonnay we bought on the weekend. It’s from Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula which brought us back memories of our visit to the region in 2017 and back when I was working in wine retail I use to sell some of their wines too.
We didn’t visit Scotchman’s Hill on our last visit to the Bellarine but it’s definitely on the list for when we hopefully get back there this year!
This wine is vegan-friendly which means that they use vegetable-based fining agents to clarify the wine rather than the more commonly used egg and dairy products.
And what’s extra cool is that Scotchmans Hill are the exclusive wine and sparkling partner of the 2019 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Moving into its 41st year, Mardi Gras is partnering with a winery from the Victorian region for the festival. The below video gave me a good laugh and features the Swan Bay Chardonnay.
Scotchmans Hill stands for celebration and integrity, which is what Mardi Gras is all about!
The Swan Bay range was created to reflect the Colours of the Bellarine, a perfect fit with the rainbow symbol iconised by Mardi Gras and the LGBTQI community.
Now in terms of the Chardy…
It’s the colour of pale yellow roses in the glass. On the nose, it inspires thoughts of creamy vanilla custard and fresh passionfruit and peach. While in the mouth it’s smooth, mouth covering and has a nice refreshing citrus lick to it. It’s got a nice amount of oomph and flavour that matched our ‘classy’ chicken chips perfectly, in fact, they brought out some of the fruit sweetness in the wine.
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #tcweekdaywine
